New to raising hens, with 3 layers: Ruby the Rhode Island Red, Tiger the Buff Orphington, and Nana the White Orphington. They stopped laying when it got very hot suddenly a week ago. Now I fear they have mites as I just found dirty feathers around their derrieres. Til now has been a great joy to see them explore around my garden, listening to them vocalize. Married, 2 kids in college, also garden, hike, ski, kayak.

Also Newbie from NC. Welcome. Farmers around here swear by wood ash spread around parts of coop/run that won't get wet as mite preventative.
