I would like to put my 6 week chicks with the adults. I plan to change their food to grower and put out oyster shells for the layers. From what I've read on other posts this should do the trick. The problem is that because the feed is so expensive here I have been mixing the layer pellets with barley, oats and crushed maize in the ratio 3:1:1:1
If I do the same ratio but replace the layer pellets with growers mash will it still be ok for the chicks or is this A REALLY SILLY question?

My concern would not be feed, but age of the birds you are introducing into a adult flock. Watch for bullying and pecking, it could escilate to dangerous levels.

I agree, I have never been able to successfully integrate any juvies under 4 months into my adult flock.

I usually just mix layer & grower crumbles and a little game feed and then offer oyster shell. That way the growing juvies get enough protein and the hens still get their layer feed.
