Mixed Bantams: Newbie makes stupid mistake at TSC

dont forget that they are hatchery quality too...I have several hatchery chickens that do not entirely match breed standards. I have noticed over time that hatchery birds are not the best examples of breeding.

I would almost bet that your TSC gets them from Ideal on Privett. I'm in west texas, and ours get them from privett! Why don't you just order chicks yourself, I got my silkies from Ideal, yes they aren't show birds, but I don't care! They have no minimum # of birds, you just have to spend $25. If I was you, I would raise these up, sell the ones you don't want, and take that money turn around and order you some silkies!

Yup, went to TSC and came back with 8 banties - straight run. Lost one today, it drowned in the water - I believe it was a blue cochin - the only one too

One is a golden seabright, and the other 6 are a tan with a dark brown stripe down their backs, one of these is slightly lighter in color and looks like it has eyeliner. Anyone have an idea what they could be. All their legs are clean - the tan ones have pink legs. They are ALL hoplessly adorable.

First of all: thank you so much for the links, gryeyes. There was lots of great information and I love finding new sources.

O.K. now I have to drop the bomb and hope that you will not all judge me harshly:

I spoke to TSC and after hearing what happened they said they would be happy to take the chicks back. They had already sold out of the rest of the mixed bantums and my chicks were perfectly healthy and happy. Though this is not their policy, the Manager and the worker who had given me the wrong information were both there. I am absolutely guilty of losing my head, I confess! While I loved on the leetle chicks, the timing was all wrong. My husband and I have some unavoidable travel to do and I intended to order chicks for a May delivery.

Thank you all for your help as it is making me a better future Chick-Mama. I will write again once I get more chicks. Our brooder is ready and waiting for the next and permanent batch. AND I promise never to do such a thing again. While I obviously feel bad about this, I know it was the right decision. I knew that once my husband met the chicks there would be no turning back and that it would be in better interest for the chicks to have consistent care and attention for their first 6 weeks especially, which is when we have several short trips and I have one longer trip planned.

I'm taking jarcoo0153's advice and looking in to Ideal as a source for the next batch. We don't care about show quality, just want some chickens to love on and share our greenspace.

Thanks again, y'all!

No one's judging. I know I, for one, have made spur of the moment chick purchases before. Just as long as you make sure they are taken care of, there is nothing wrong with taking back or selling them.

Wish you much luck with the ones you order!
