So I have a Production Tolouse goose and two Pekin ducks who have cooperated on a nest. They currently have 20 eggs in the nest and I believe Greta (goose) is going broody. Is it a bad idea to let her sit on these eggs? Will she leave the nest once the ducklings are hatched and leave the unhatched goslings?

The girls have been very busy! The thing is I really want the goslings but the ducklings are going to be mixed breed (possibly pekin/runner or pekin/rouen or just pekin).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is the first time I have had a broody goose/duck and have never had any of my birds hatch out.

Nervous gosling/duckling grandma to be.

If you really want the goslings, you probably should remove the duck eggs to give the goslings a better chance. I suppose there is the off chance that a pekin might go broody and sit on them if you set them aside. I'm not an expert though my goose just went broody for the first time recently.

I would agree. If you're not so interested in ducklings, I'd leave her with just goose eggs. She may well abandon the nest when the ducklings hatch.

Next time, I would separate the ducks so the clutch doesn't build so quickly. You will probably get more goose eggs and with higher fertility than if she only lays a few of her own before going broody.

No criticism there -- I am for the first time dealing with community (goose only) nests myself.
