I think Rachel meant that she was unsure of which of the two parent breeds was the roo, and which was the hen. (I may have misinterpreted though.)

even still, sometimes if you cross a roo from breed A with a hen from breed B, you can get a completely different outcome than if you crossed a roo from B with a hen from A... that is why I asked for at least an educated guess... that way, we can get a general idea...

I got White Rock and Brown Leghorn from Cackle. They looked exactly like they were supposed to. They are now 5 wks old and except for one Leghorn being a little lighter that the rest no problems.
But I had to add this cross. Buff Orpinton over Leghorn. He's all Roo. 22 wks old

PixieChixie was right; I do know for certain that they're Silkie and Frizzle, but I'm not sure which was the hen and which was the roo.

I could make a slightly-less-than-educated guess, I suppose, but I'm quite new to keeping anything but ISA Browns or layer mutts, so I can't really tell. If you (generally) do object to my posting pictures of ones I'm not sure of, then I won't.

I do intend to hatch out some crosses of my own soon, so I'll know which parent's which for that.

Thankyou for answering, and sorry for taking up so much space on this thread without putting a picture on.

from Rachel.

Cackel Hatchery in Lebanon Missouri seems to be a pretty good hatchery. I oredered buff orps from them which are now about 6 months old, the hens arearound 6-7 lbs already and my two roos are closer to 8-9 lbs, still not full grown.

I guess it just depends on where you get your chickens

Have you weighed them or are you estimating? Just curious. Cause they are fluffy birds.

I'm starting a mix right now: Production Red Rooster and Black Sex Link Hen and I am also doing Barred Rock Rooster and Production Red Hen to make Black Sex Links

I just saw your PM and responded back but if you see this first or anyone else wants to see I have a Chicken blog were I have been posting pics of my chickens and contraptions. I have put up some pics of my BSL and RIR mixes as adult chickens and they are the first six or so pics on the site. I only kept three of them but gave the others to friends and they all turned out the same with one exception that one looked just like a Barred Rock hen. Just go here:

Let me know if you want more pics or anything.

Nice cross! I have this combo and will have to hatch some! How big is he? BO size? Leghorn size? or somewhere between?

Estimating. I have several different breeds to compare them to. Visually they are significantly larger than my 2 yr old RIRs and Ameraucanas, and judging by picking them up they are noticeably heavier. A 3-4 lb bird is quite small, we have a white Leghorn hen for that size for comparison, which is again noticeably larger than our Cochin Bantams and Silikies. They are certainly fluffy, which I love. Speaking of which I'd love to see a BO cross with a Cochin! I'd hope they're even fluffier, I'd like to get a Cochin hen just to experiment this idea with.
