Mrs.K-  love the thought of the colors changing.  I just re-started after 20 years with no chickens.  My grandma always had 10 or so laying hens and a rooster when I was a kid.  all sorts of colors and always a few "bantys" as she called them.  Those little bantys were her pets. The standards were livestock.  The whole flock evolved and changed through the years.  I never knew what happened to the rooster until I grew up and then I figured out that was those awesome fried chicken dinners on Sunday.
