Mixed flock

We've been thinking of having our chickens and duck coexist in the same area. This means everyone is free ranged then. My worry is some of our drakes going after our chickens. What are some ways you helped protect your chickens from your drake ducks? We have 3 males and 10 females for ducks. And we have 6 hens.

Generally, unless they were raised with chicks, drakes will mate the duck hens as long as there are enough so a mixed flock can work. Keep an eye on things and remove any drakes that are interested in interspecies lovin'.

Would having a rooster help at all?

It sounds like you have plenty of duck hens. I don't think you will have any problems.
