I think they approve! She’s supposed to be all black.
I have red clay for dirt. In the summer it isn’t too bad. The girls find a dry spot, and do their thing. Once it started raining, they actually start turning rust colored. (Only my blue/lavender birds). Rains some more, and they just get worse.
I’ve found that equal parts wood ash, dirt, and well seasoned compost all but stop all the straight clay issues I’ve had previously. They now are using this old half barrel before any of their other favorite spots. My flower beds in front of the house only have small ‘comfy holes’ vs giant dust holes.
