Mixing 1 week chicks with 4/5/6 week olds?

I would mix ages with OEGB but nothing else. For whatever reason, they don't seem to pick on the newcomers.

I have done it with orpington, salmon faverolles, EE, and mutts. Yes EE are mixed. But I mean purely mutts.lol so mixed that no telling what they are! So far, I have not had troubles. Actually, it's been beneficial! But yeah, some breeds I wouldn't even attempt it.

Those are all pretty sweet breeds... well, EE's boys can be weirdos... or boys in general...

Well, with all that I am surprised it took you so long ! Or is this one of those never too late things?
Do you have a roo and incubate? What breeds will you be focusing on? How much room and how is your set up? Will you have to be adding structures or are you all set up and just starting to fill up?
Pretty cool you are still in love with the birds after all of that time.

Well, I was a single mom. So that put a damper on things. Too busy surviving to start living.lol but now, I live with my son and grandson. The mom, unfortunately is in avegetative state from a horrible car accident. So now, I am in a two income household! We moved last year to several acres. I have a 40 x20 building, that is the coop and broader. Plus a root cellar and storm shelter below. Part of it, we are using for storage and work shop, as we are doing work on the house. But eventually, it will be all coops.

I have a homemade incubator.it holds up to 100 eggs. But will be investing in a manufacturer one next year.
For eggs, EE, RIR, Marans, barred rocks.

For selling chicks, brahma,orpington, salmon faverolles, and RIR. Of course For eggs also.lol

And, my grandson is a huge motivation for doing g this. He loves them more than I do! And someday, he will need a source of income. And this is something he can do, with help. I plan on growing slow. I know 50ish birds may not sound slow. But actually it is. But it's a good start! We have plenty of space. And a perfect location! I was shocked how fast, and how many, ducklings we sold. So we should be able to have great success with this. I wanted different colored eggs. And popular breeds for chicks. That people would want to buy. And, I wanted friendly birds. I know rir and marans are not friendly really. But their other traits made them must haves! And, if needed, we have another 20 x 20 building, that can also be converted, if we ever grow that successful!

Yes! Most roos have attitudes lol. But when young, they are not too bad...until they begin to mature! Lol

Oh, and roos. I have two roos. But they will not be for the business. I have some ordered. And will be arriving in a few weeks. I tried ordering some earlier. But there was some issues with the co.pany, so canceled everything with them. It has put me back a bit. But that's okay.

Park city Kentucky. It is up the road from mammoth cave. And we are on a road, that is close to the highway. So everyone past us, has to drive past our house to get to the expressway. We have a lot of traffic. It's great for selling stuff. Rural king and tsc can't keep chicks in.rural king is still getting in chicks. And selling out in a couple days. Plenty of people wanting chicks. And eggs are so expensive now

Is this possible? I don't have a way to separate them out in the coop/run. Should I wait until the 1 week olds are older? How old would be optimum? Thank you!

I'd say better sooner than later.

Had a dozen chicks in the brooder, 4-6 weeks old, and got a couple 1 days olds.
Split the brooder with a mesh wall, the older chicks wanted in, the day olds wanted to be with the crowd.
I did a test by putting the oldest chick in with the day olds, all it wanted was at the feeder.
So I put them all together and the day olds were ecstatic to be with the group and fit in just fine.
