If i put a wild male coturnix quail and a female jumbo coturnix quail will the eggs be fertile? Also which gene will be dominate the wild or jumbo gene? or will it just be a 50/50 percent chance? Thanks!

Wild coturnix are hte same thing as Jumbo coturnix, the only difference is size (and in some cases the pharoah size *wild size* is more nervous). So absolutely that mating would work because theres no difference other than breeding selection.

you will more than likely get little and big quail I am unsure if jumbo is dominant over small size, but if it is that's good for you. I am not a fan of the pharoah sized coturnix, they are too skiddish for my liking and their eggs are smaller and not as much meat on them.

To explain why wild type and jumbo are the same thing, you know how theres different sizes in the same breeds of dogs? How theres different sizes in the same breeds of chickens? Same deal with coturnix. Pharoah (wild type) are more close to what the wild coturnix looks like, where as the jumbos were bred for bigger birds. Also all the colors you hear about are all coturnix as well and yes can all breed together...just like a blue silkie can breed with a black silkie

You can think of the pharaoh (wild type) coturnix as the bantams of the Jumbo browns. In chickens, most bantam breeds have a large fowl cousin, same thing with the pharaohs and jumbos

I only have 1 pharaoh, a hen, and she does lay smaller eggs than the jumbos. But her eggs are a bit bigger than my goldens' and some of my tibetans. Plus she is the sweetest little bird, she isn't much for holding, but she loves to have her breast rubbed! Not a skittish bone in her body! I call her Cricket.

I had to move her out of my jumbos' pen, they were beating her up. She was in the sick ward for a while, and she would make a sound just like a cricket for attention!
