Mixing and Matching

We are thinking of starting with a few meat chickens (4-6) this spring. We have 24 layers right now. Can they be kept together or should I build another pen for just the meaties?

I know some on here have put them together successfully, but I would not recommend it unless it's a last resort. Meaties and layers have very different needs.

Yes, I'd build a separate area as well. The meat birds will need to eat different food, and also might not be as comfortable in a henhouse. Make a nice tractor or separate house for them, with lots of ventilation and an easy access cleaning door (this is important, they poop a lot, especially the cornish x).
