mixing baby chicks with older baby chicks

Can you mix 3 week old baby chicks with day old baby chicks?
Also how long do I have to determine which is a rooster and which is a hen before the roosters start to fight?

im slowly introducing them starting at about 5-10 minutes a day while a watch them, i find my 3 1/2 week olds are very nice and patient with my chicks that were just hatched monday making them 4 days old. but without supervision is not a good idea as an accident could happen even if your older chicks didnt mean too they could trample them or suffocate them etc...
