next spring i am planning on buying two different breeds of dual purpose poultry. i was thinking of barred rocks and buff orpingtons and was planning on getting a dozen or so of each breed, one rooster of each and the rest hens. will i have problems with the roosters fighting or anything? or should i stick with one breed so they don't end up cross breeding? any suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

Cross breeding is only an issue if you are looking to sell pure bred chickens. If you don't care too much about cross breeds, then it's not a problem. As far as the boys duking it out, as long as you have enough hens you shouldn't have a problem. One roo will assert his dominance and dictate how many girls the other roo gets.

If you get something like RIRs and white rocks or barred rocks- and you just get an RIR roo- you'll get 1/2 pure and 1/2 sex-link chicks that are great layers too.
