I have 20 hens and 4 roos and last weekend i got the chance to get 3 free turkeys. I built a new run for the turkeys and the man i got the from let them roam free. He also had banym chickens. I have read stuff about turkeys getting diseases from the chickens that will kill them, should i let them out together?

My turkeys and peafowl free range with my chickens, I just try not to let them sleep in the same coop. Black head is the disease in question, and can be carried by some chickens. When a turkey eats poop from the affected chicken it can get blackhead from them, and it's more fatal to turkeys then chickens. I have not had a problem with mine and I have like 18 turkey, 7 peafowl and ??? how many chickens on small acreage. As long as blackhead is not present in your flock, you should be fine.

We have many chickens and one turkey. he's a sweetheart, but desperately wants turkey friends. I think he tried to mount one of the hens and pretty much killed her

I have one hen turkey and many chickens. She has the option of roosting with the chickens but prefers not to.I have no problem with diseases in the flock from this. They live peacefully together and watch out for one another.
Are peafowl vulnerable to blackhead?
