I have a lovely flock of chickens, 9 pullets, 1 cockerel, should be 18 weeks by the 4th of July. I saw a posting on craigslist where someone was giving away two chickens, unsure if they are pullets or cockerels, as the landlord was causing issues. I offered to take them and will hopefully get them this weekend. I plan on quarantining them to ensure they are healthy, but what is the best way to go about this? Do I make a little mini coop for the new ones, quarantine them, ensure they are healthy, and then make it so they can see my chickens but can't hurt each other? How long should they be quarantined, and how long should the be "introduced" to each other to prevent any problems? Also, as a fairly new chicken owner what signs and symptoms should I be keeping my eyes open for in regards to the new chickens health? Any other advice you can give me?

You should quarantine the new chickens in a separate area across the yard from the others. After 30 days if you see no signs of illness, put a pen inside your chicken run and let them see each other. After a few days it is probably safe to let them out, but make sure you have enough room for them to get away from each other, and make sure that you're there!

This is what I do. Hope I could help!
