Mixing Chukars With Other Birds

I Aways Found That A Good Rule Of Thumb Is That During Breeding Season The Males Are On Top..... Oh Yeah And If Its Laying An Egg -- It's Definately Female!

I seen males on top too so stay with the egg laying option lol (very confused birds)

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :

I just have to add... wow. I had no idea that they were that bad. You see, I brood ringnecks and chukars together with no problems. I've even brooded bobwhites with chukars. If anything, it's the pheasants that pick on the chukars. But I have a 16x16' covered run with little coverage - lots of tree branches, but they're bare - with lots of chukars and pheasants (and turkeys and guineas and a stray rooster) and rarely lose a bird. Toughest part is introducing a few new ones to the flock... that doesn't go over so well, but the ones that were all raised together get along just swimmingly. I don't mean to be contradictory, but I was a little surprised by the answers so far...

Agree was surprised with the answers also. Have raised them in cages even, never any trouble with them picking on each other. Nothing like ringnecks. Now I dont mixes different type of birds. Just asking for trouble when mixing.

You know, someone mentioned keeping a chicken rooster in with my gamebirds to keep the peace... not sure why, but I have an extra one in there (he prefers it and tries to get back to that run if he ever gets out) and for some reason it works. With the roosters in there, it's quite calm. I don't get it.

But I'm not complaining! LOL!

Its Got To Be This Climate Then.... I Had 18 Peeps In A 6x8 Flight Pen 2 Wks Ago---- I'm Down To 4! And The Only Reason I Still Have 4 Is That I Totally Isolated Each And Every One Of The Mean Lil ..... Nevermind! I Seperated Them. None Were From Cold/ Wet/ Illness==== All Were Pecked To Death!

For The Record--- All 18 Hatched And Have Been Brooded Togather--- And The Death Toll Went To 14 Birds In 2 Days--- They Have Been Seperated Ever Since!
