Mixing day old chicks from different hatcheries...bad idea, no?

I think you are talking about diseases, quarantine, and biosecurity. I consider chicks from a major hatchery to be extremely safe from a biosecurity viewpoint. I would not hesitate to mix them immediately.

Couple options for pickup, this far out you could probably cancel your order. I don't think Meyer has a cancelation fee except in cases of excessive cancelations if you cancel more than 1 week before your hatch date. Then you could order your chicks from the hatchery in MD (unless of course the blue cochin is a must have for you like the lav orps)

The other option is to keep checking Meyers' website for the orps. When we placed our chick order with them last January one of the breeds we wanted wasn't available for our hatch date. With no chickens of my own yet, I kept impulsively checking the website and about a month before our hatch date I noticed the breed we had wanted was now available for our hatch date! The customer service team was wonderful to work with and it was no trouble at all to change our order.

You could also check the cancelation policy for the other hatchery and if it seems acceptable place your order at both hatcheries and cancel your order if the orps become available at meyer

Sorry, I meant keep from having chicks shipped.i'm sure it's usually fine, I would prefer driving the babies myself if at all possible.

Mt Healthy hatchery is also in Ohio and carries lavender Orpingtons. Might be worth giving them a call to see if they have the other breeds you want from the MD hatchery. Drive to 1 state for your pickups instead of 2. They also have 10% off if you mention it while calling, for early orders through the end of Feb.
