Can I do this? I've somehow got it in my head that I need 2 more chicks.

I don't have a lot of room though, so I'd need to put them in with my month olds (there are 6 of them).

Good idea, bad idea?

I had to make 2 flocks but mine were 3 months apart. You might be OK with that small gap in age. I know they might get pecked regardless so you may wish to monitor behavior.

I've mixed age groups that way - with great success, but usually, i think it will work best if the younger birds outnumber the older--or at least are the same number. Also, i would, if you can, keep the hatchlings separated for close to a week - those first few days can be testy, and they don't need the added challenge of the older generation.

Ehhh well you can try.I have 4 brooders of chicks now 2 without heat and the youngest are about a month old.Waiting on night temps to warm up and still got some little coop repairs to do for each group.I just had one columbian bantam wyandotte hatch this morn but by no mean's I will put that chick in with them.I have a few sebright's in that run and they are known to be quite testy. When we first brought the whole group of 20 home I had put 4 of the columbians that hatched the next day in and they were pecking at them. But they did ok then but they are feathering now so wont put any newbies in there.I have about 8 eggs due mid next week to hatch some frizzles and a few more columbian so hopefuly the one will have some mates by then.I got 2 brooders of about 2 month old bantams in basement they starting to fly all over lol.Baaaaaaa .Think i should just chuck a bale of hay down basement steps and forget it lol.

Well, I went ahead and got 2 more (silkies, I couldn't resist!)

After bringing them home, there is no way I'm mixing right now. They are sooo tiny! My ameracaunas are like 7 times bigger!

I sectioned off the box they are in though, so my olders get some heat, but my babies get most of it. Hopefully this set up will work for awhile (until I can build my coop anyway)

And boy, those silkies are just as cute as a button.

I'd be afraid to mix my hatchlings with my 4 week olds. They'd probably think they were some interesting kind of treat and eat them!
