mixing pheasants

Generally speaking a trio of Reeves won't work well. You need to either have 3 hens or 1. The dominant hen will pound on the other girl. Many times that gal will be laying infertile eggs as the male never gets to breed her. If you get a third hen, then things generally work better. While one hen is being dominant, the other is being bred and it spreads the abuse around. NOTICE, I used words like generally, and usually, as there is nothing set in stone in the pheasant world.

More backyard breeding tactics at work when purchasing your eggs. FOlks think MAN I can make more money if I have more hens laying. Doesn't work that way. Each species has its best ratio for fertility. Just another thought while we were talking about unscrupulous sales.

Alan, with all of them, bigger is always better, and some like tragopans like to be aerial too so height is a big plus with them. The best thing to prevent the passing is loads of ground cover, well planted aviaries are always a plus, though some like eared and impeyans just wont allow you to do much of it, they'll dig up an oak tree I believe. So tree tops and limb piles help with them, anything to make them feel secure helps.. Loggs, perches, rocks any thing really other than a bare pen. All that also helps cut back on aggression
