Now see you didn't read all the post.Just 1 year of cross breeding can wipe out 7 years of pure birds, that's a lot in just 1 year. Now you take those cross bred muts and breed them to anything, there goes 14 years of pure breeds. Why can't you people understand that? You want pheasants because they are pretty.I want pheasants to protect them from extinction so my son and his son and his son can enjoy their beauty like I do.Before long they will all be on the endangered species list, and it's all our fault.
In N.H.,Tony.
Exactly!!
About 80% of them or better, already are on the endangered species list most of the others are on the Critically Threatened list.
This is not a domestic family of birds, and thus should not be treated like they are. As for the guy keeping them ALL together in the winter, that's crazy! He's either VERY lucky, or nutts, or just both. None of my Reeves have ever cared what season it is, as well as many other species. To be exact about it, many breeds can only be kept as pairs too, cause the hens will kill each other . It's not always the males that are aggressive.
These are not and should not be treated like domestic fowl, PERIOD, cause there is nothing about them similar to any domestic bird with regards to caring for and PROPERLY keeping them.
As for mixing, With the ones that are Endangered, which are most like I said, It should be illegal to intentionally mix breed them under the U.S.D.I. Endangered Species Act. Hopefully it is....
