My trip to Atwoods about three weeks ago wasn't as fruitful as I had hoped and it looks that I have more cockerels than pullets sooooooo...its back to Atwoods to grab another handful and cross my fingers! My question is when is a good time to place both groups of chicks together? I realize that there will only be a months difference between the groups, but the size difference and hardiness is vast. Should I wait until the 'new' chicks are feathering well before I move them in with the big boys?

We are buying new chicks each week and its been a test and see attitude with each new set.
We got Orppingtons 2 weeks ago and Giant jerseys last week. We were concerned about the jersey giants getting picked on by the orppingtons. Those JG went after the feet of the Orps
so the JGs are in their own section. This last saturday someone called and ask if we
could take their Childrens easter chickens and we put them in with the Orpingtons and you could never telled they had been raised apart.

So basically it's just trial and error huh?

Oh well, it'll all work out in the end.
