Just wanted to add that there are no cameras allowed. I watched someones phone go buh-bye one year because they repeatedly were asked to stop taking photos and wouldn't listen. Also, please don't bounce checks...lol. They will hunt you down with a vengance. And remember "It's times the count in the cage!" (those who've been there before will get the joke :D That phrase is repeated constantly throughout the day, because there will be SOMEONE who goes "I paid $100 for 5 birds? I thought it was $20 for the whole cage..." lol)

We've been attending this sale since I was very young and it was still located in Mora :) And the Perham sale since it started out there. Although there aren't very many REALLY exotic animals that go through anymore, I've gotten to help bottle feed cougars, cuddle with baby grizzly bear, and all sorts of fun things. Last year there were a couple camel. This year already consigned are African crowned cranes!

Anyone going the swap in waverly IA on April 15? It's supposed to be the largest swap around, my neighbor goes every year and this year I'm going too.

How safe are these poultry swaps? I know how the regular livestock auctions are. Rarely is their anything of great quality, usually just trying to get ride of those who don't perform or those that are sick.

Here are some swaps coming up near the Duluth Area. Taken off craigslist.

Swaps are pretty safe, everything has to be tested. There might be somebody trying to unload bad birds but on average most of the birds look good and well cared for. There are usually alot of sellers that also show their birds so you see alot of good looking stuff. The exotic auctions vary, I've seen some really bad stuff and I've also seen some great stuff go through. I think they are getting better every year. I like swaps better because of the fact that you can talk to the owner (and you don't have to wait forever for the bird you want to be sold) and find out how he raises his stock.

That being said, anyone (besides me) going to the Pierz auction tomorrow?

I was at Pierz. I've been going at least once a year since Vern brought the sale there, and then before that when it was in Mora. Probably close to 15 years now :) There was some great stuff, some VERY unruly people (I think this year has been one of the worst for RUDE people, I nearly stood up and said something), some not so great stuff, and one of the guys in the ring who needs to not work in the ring again (pretty sure he broke a couple legs on rabbits, granted he got a bit better towards the end, and I realize it's a fast paced auction, but he NEEDS to be more careful, actually thinking of emailing Vern about him). Brought home a few bunnies, a few calls and a muscovy drake. Couldn't BELIEVE the prices. Spring is always higher, but this year was nuts. Lots of people spending lots of money. Very nice for the sellers. Just a couple things were no saled. Still recovering from a long weekend with little sleep today, but can't wait for Perham weekend after next. It's more of a tradition then anything for our family :) We enjoy talking to people and meeting new friends every year :)

I was the girl with the black rimmed glasses with a plaid hat & spiky hair underneath, almost 6 feet tall, and my husband is 6'3'' so we kind of stick out :) lol.
