MN Swap Dates for 2012

I too was at Peirz , I agree many people were very rude. But there were some very nice people and plolite as well. I was wearing a red, white, and blue wind breaker with 2 canes. Some people gave me some room to pass and others I had to just make room. I bought some books, 36 inch metal feeders, 10 call ducks and some other dog/cat dishes. the prices of some stuff was extremely high. I have tried to find out if Johnson's waterfowl is NPIP certified? No one new at the auction and not on the internet. Tried to call and no answer. Does anyone know here? I do believe the auction house needs to do the none livestock either in the middle or spread it out some. I heard many people were complaining about it. Otherwise I had a good time but many people didn't know who was selling what. I wanted to talk to many but they were not around. Also I heard from a friend of mine that many people sell their baby's at auction because they don't fhave to be tested. If the adult have to be then I feel that the baby's should have to come from a NPIP certified home. Otherwise WHY test the adults? This makes NO SENCE to me. I am now scared to put these call ducks any place close to me other birds!

I would think Johnson's would be certified for as big as they are. I believe I read somewhere they don't take Sunday calls and they are outside alot in the spring so leave a message and they will get back to you.
I have been to these auctions before but it did seem to take them forever to get to the birds this time. Auction starts at 8:00 and they didn't get to critters until 12:30?
Baby chicks cannot be tested (I believe they have to be at least 12 weeks old) but you need a hatchery permit to sell them or hatching eggs. Your breeding stock should all be tested-NPIP certified. Which is another reason Johnson's should be certified or I don't believe they could be selling there.

Thats all fine, but I feal then whom ever is selling baby poultry shuold include their NPIP # so that when you add them to your breeding stock then there wouldn't be a problem. I know of many people who are selling eggs and birds are not certified on this site just like Hot2Pot and Rebal Rooster. I found out that they were not when I started to try and get certified myself. I bought eggs from them, all turned out okay. I know alot of it is going on just by looking at all the auctions here and on ebay, craigslist. They are shipping to and from MN. After talking with them, they tell me that it is a waste fo time. That is scarry so I have blocked them out so I don't buy them on a mistake.

Thank you, Bantisrule

When I said that "when after I talk with them I don't mean Hot2 Pot or Rebel Rooster" I am sorry if my comment was taken out of context. These two have been very helpful and a joy to learn from. It was my mistake in being un-educated when I bought them. They may be certified in their state but have no permit for this state. Please except my apology.

I would love to attend one or more of these auctions or swaps that are later in the summer early fall. Any dates for those yet? I have been wanting to attend for years, but any mentioned here are at least a 3 hour drive for me. There are none in Northern MN that I have ever heard of. If I had to pick one to attend, does anybody know which one would be the best bet for peafowl to be there? I know it is always different, but maybe some of you regular attendees would know of one that always has them?

Thank you!

The dates have been set for the fall Pierz and Perham exotic animals auctions. The Perham sale will be Oct 6 and the Pierz sale will be oct 12 & 13. (eta: Birds are on Saturday the 13th, exotic animals on the 12th) The Pierz one is usually bigger but I think there are usually peafowl at both of them and Perham wouldn't be that far away for you. I still recommend swaps over auctions just because you can talk to the breeders, at auctions you don't know who's stuff you're buying. I don't know of any swaps up north right now though.
