I have four 16 wk black sex-linked pullets remaining from a 6-chick flock from which we had to send 2 cockerels to the country since they are not welcome in the city. The boys left 3 days ago. For the last 2 days, the girls have been wandering around the run making a moaning sound that I haven’t heard from them before. They seem healthy. They are eating. They aren’t laying yet. Are they missing the boys? Any other ideas?

My bet is that they are saying.....
"mmmm-hmmmm, isn't it nice and peaceful with those boys gone outta here?!"
:gig
Sometimes I think they do like a break LOL
I'm thinking it's what I call pullet whining - when they are transitioning from peeping to "big girl" noises - there's a little window of time where they make little squirrely whines, then it turns to honking and boisterous whiny something or others - How's that:lau

Typical sound. I associate this sound as anticipation. I hear this if I'm out in the yard and they're watching me. Probably hoping I'll come feed them or open the gate so they can come out.
