modding a dog house for ventilation - help?

I'm lazy and cheap...I would just cut a window out and put a inexpensive gable vent in the window cutout.

I’m lazy and cheap too!
i would need to take apart half the dog house to get a hole cut for a gable vent, so I might just go with the ridge vent idea - taking apart the roof the do-able. buuuut I do get a feeling that once I start taking it apart, I might take it all apart 🙈

You don't have to put it in the actual "gable" of the doghouse you can cut it in anywhere; side, back or where you can find a space between the studs like a window.

An easy solution for you to put in a gable vent is to take the biggest hole saw you have and drill three or more holes up where aart's picture shows a gable vent. Do it on both ends of the doghouse. Then cover with hardware cloth. This could be done without taking apart anything.

You can cut it from the outside.

I was thinking using hardware cloth for part of the door, would that work?
Probably too much air too low.

Is this tiny coop going to be inside a sheltered run?

what tools would I need to cut it from the outside? is it possible to just drill holes? I have a lot of patience if need be. lol

and Yep sheltered run. it’s got a tarp over part of top for now, but I’ll be adding more tarps in the side to block off wind for winter

I'd add gable vents to each end and a ridge vent along the whole top. Too much airflow in the winter it's easy to block off one of both gable vents.

Could I diy a ridge vent? the youtube videos i looked up requires an aluminum (?) part

DIY ridge vent is easy. Make sure you have about a 2 inch gap in the roof deck at the peak for air to escape. I would lay a strip of 1/4 inch hardware cloth down of the gap.

But this is simple to build, just needs to be covered with singles. I would use 3/4 plywood to build it, on a dog box it doesn't need lumber. 3/4 vent gap should be more than enough.

Measure everything out so when you cut the shingles like this.

the finished ridge looks like this with the homemade ridge vent under it no wood should be shown.
