Modern Marvels - ALL ABOUT EGGS! ON now

My birds are raised and feed just like the fellow with the CSA, no one around here would pay $8 a doz. I'm glad he gets a great price for his eggs

, but you have to remember that's Calf. they do things different there. Different laws, rules and attitudes. I would be more impressed if he had a haritage bird not a sex-link, and how long does he keep his birds, he did say thay went to the soup company when he was done with them.

According to the linked transcript:
When these chickens have finished two years of laying here, the third year, they really don't lay enough eggs to pay for their feed, so they have to go, you know, we all have to pay our way.

What happens to them, we have a good demand for spent chickens and they go to a slaughterhouse in Sacramento where they're processed for stewing chickens.

--------------------------

I'm in CA and I can't even sell mine for more than 5$/doz and I count myself lucky (category 2 eggs sell in my local supermarkets for 4-5$, and the local farmers market eggs can go up to 6$). If I had the kind of volume he has (20,000) birds you can bet I'd be expanding into higher paying brackets. It's product differentiation stratagem, not just 'California' that is responsible for his 8$ eggs. We have many people here on BYC who live in the same exact geographic area that Eatwell Farms operate and can only sell their eggs for 5-6$.

In marketing, product differentiation (also known simply as "differentiation") is the process of distinguishing a product or offering from others, to make it more attractive to a particular target market. This involves differentiating it from competitors' products as well as a firm's own product offerings.

Differentiation can be source of competitive advantage. Marketing or product differentiation is the process of describing the differences between products or services, or the resulting list of differences. This is done in order to demonstrate the unique aspects of a firm's product and create a sense of value.

A successful product differentiation strategy will move your product from competing based primarily on price to competing on non-price factors (in this case, product characteristics)

When I raised the price of my eggs from 1.00 to 1.25, I lost buyers, they said that was too much. I would LOVE to get 8.00 a doz. My birds are raised the same way his birds are..................Some people have all the luck.........

Watched the egg show last night on the history channel. Wow, still can't get over those poor chickens in those tiny cages. It makes me want to buy more chickens so I can give eggs to my neighbors to put these places out of business. Sad lives those chickens live.
