Modern technology: do you resist or just "go with the flow"?

I don't see it as going with flow, I see it as taking advantage of new technology; the same we did the light bulb, the crank telephone, antibiotics, etc. Some choose to not take advantage of it and that is fine, as long as it's a personal choice and not just to prove they don't do something just because someone else does, you know? If you don't need or want what is there, that's great, I'm not a big tv watcher but I like my computer (it's my link to you!), my cell phone has saved more than one life to include my own, so yeah, I'm happy to have it. Do I have a super fancy phone or computer, no, but they serve my purpose. Would I like to have a Nook? No, I'd LOVE to have one! Can I afford one? No, so I do without. My mom and dad have a cell phone, she uses it, he doesn't and loves to brag that he can't figure out that new fangled thing! But he sure loves it when I take my laptop over there so we can video conference with my Navy baby in Cicily. To each their own ya know?

I AM a techie. I have an iPhone, but only got it a couple of months ago. I got an iPad the same day, because that was the period of time my computer was broken and before I got the new one.

I do not consider it as "going with the flow." I am utilizing the technology which is available to me and which I can, sort of, afford. Being reasonable about it, I could have lived with my old cell phone, because it and the iPhone both can do things I don't yet know how to do. But I'll learn.

I do wish it wasn't so easy to mangle written English with text communications. <*shudder*>

I am saddened that there won't be as many wonderful love letters and missives to be found by your descendants, tucked away somewhere, someday.

But I love my Kindle (to which both my iPad and iPhone can sync and I can read whatever I have saved and even go right back to where I was in any book, from any three devices).

I couldn't resist!

My DH is a techie. He has a laptop and ipad, fancy cellphone, etc. But he was raised in Silicon Valley- it's not his fault.

I have an old computer and old-timey monitor. I don't watch tv (but I look at youtube things sometimes). I have a cheap prepaid cellphone. I definitely have no interest in all the new-fangled technology.

I'm pretty happy sitting in front of the fire with a cup of hot chocolate. Or cleaning and cooking, splitting wood, sewing, etc.

I am proud to admit that I don't mangle when I text....I spell out words in full & use complete sentences with the appropriately placed period, apostrophe, exclamation, or question mark...takes a little longer & it drives my kids nuts!!

It's just payback for them having driven me nuts for years!

Wanted to add...I received a reply to a text that read "K"

I replied, "K??? What does this mean? I speak english fluently and can carry a light conversation in two other languages. This is not a correct response in any of the languages I know." I don't receive texts from this person anymore...they call!

I dont go with the flow.We have tracfones,a desktop cpu,a big screen, not flat.I am an electrical designer,so I need the fancy gizmos with all the bells and whistles while working, but do you really need all this tech rubbish?

The inventions that are and have been good ones are:

Dryers
Refrigerators
cell phones

If I had power for only these appliances I can do without anythin else.We can sustain ourselves very nicely.

Dry clothes durring rain and snow is nice, the rest of the year, hang it outside on a line

refrigerators are a good because food is good stored cold or frozen. om nom nom

I'm with Steve. I just use what's needed.

I don't really like learning the new stuff but after I do, I'm happy I took the time. I do get annoyed at kids and texting though. The 2 older girls have pre paid cells and when they run out of minutes they write messages on the screen and show them to each other instead of talking. MP-3's are way cool. Especially in my job. I spend about 5 hours a day behind the wheel and I hate FM and listening to talk all the time drives me nuts. The MP-3 is great.

The only time we get a new pute is when it breaks down and the extended warranty is out. They really aren't worth fixing anything that requires a technician to do it.
