Sorry, this isn't currently an option, but keep in mind you can delete your PM's without opening them.

I think you can disable all notifications for PM's, too. You could do that and just don't check them.

Profile>Edit Account Details>Email Preferences and uncheck the box where it says "Notify me by email when another user messages me."

You can also disable the pop up when you visit the site.
Profile>Edit Account Details>Message Notifications and uncheck the box that says "Show an alert notification when I receive a new message."
