Quietly Remus sighed, and sat down next to her. He glanced at her questioningly.

"It's nothing..." She sighed, trying her best to dry her tears. "I-I'm sure there will be other stallions..." She cried.

Immediately Remus's eyes flicked to where Apollo and Ariel were sitting, closer than he had ever seen them before. He understood, and merely nuzzled Layla's withers in sympathy. "There will be," he promised in a friendly, fatherly way. "You've got your whole life ahead of you, Layla. You're going to find someone, whether now, or five years from now."

Layla kept crying. "But... But I loved him..." She sobbed on his shoulder.

"Yeah." Apollo said, sighing sadly.

"Maybe I......no." Ariel said.

Apollo knew what she was going to say and bit his lip. "But you have a family here, I couldn't just take you away! What would Flip say..."

"I really don't care about him." Ariel said defiantly. "I could go away! Mom just had another foal, she could replace me!"

"I know," he murmured soothingly. "I know." And he did know. The crushing forlornness, the heart-wrenching sorrow at being forgotten and swept under the rug, out of sight and out of mind. "But trust me when I say that it gets better."
