Holly shook his head, a glint in his eye. "The stallion WAS capable of speech. He poured out his story to me - but excluded any names, even the name of his herd. It appears that he's been rejected. He doesn't want to be found. Unless..." Holly stopped for dramatic effect and tossed his silken ears.
"I just need to go see him, he doesn't have to come back!"... "Unless what?!".

"Unless you meet his conditions.
1) He gets his place in the herd back.
2) The rebels in the herd leave.
3) No more fighting.
4) A certain mare and stallion, he wouldn't tell me which, must leave to another herd.
5) Two of the mares agree to have pups -- er, foals -- with him to prove their loyalty.
"At least, that's what he told me. Agree? Or not?" Holly's dark eyes pierced those of the horses around him.

"Shadow, if Jingo stays leader she will let you and Speckle stay together! And me and Pod! And Jet and Twilight! And Ace and Bella! Why do we want him back?! I say we don't agree to the conditions." Sienna whispered urgently to her.

"I know... But Silver misses him, and since he's been gone a LOT of fighting has happened, and it just might be best for the herd..." Shadow said sadly.
The dog coughed. "Oh - I forgot one thing.
#6: So-called 'mates' could stay together - so long as the mares agreed to produce one foal for him every five years."
Holly looked pleased with himself. He also couldn't think of a reason why the horses would resist this - dogs only lived for two or three years times five years, anyway!
