Maple heaved herself forth, wincing and squeezing her eyes shut as her leg stung in mercilessly throbbing waves of unbearable pain. Finally, her hooves struck the boulders on the trench's rim with a loud thud, and she leapt out. Her ankles buckled when she landed and she nearly collapsed to the ground. "Thank you," she mumbled, smiling weakly, the fine mist of rain dribbling down her face. She turned for Skyherd and beckoned Yang to follow, limping all the way.

Layla swam to her mom. "Mwommy, that's Phweobe!" Layla said happily. "I know hun! Why don't you play with her?" Shadow asked softly.
