"Mmm-mmm..." she groaned, wincing and pawing her front hoof on the fern surrounding her, trying to feel for something to support her as she attempted to stand. She pushed on a flat rock she found, but the smoothness of the water-beaten stone made her hoof slip, and her leg limply fell into the water once more. The rain was pouring by now; if she couldn't stand soon, she might drown. She began to panick and gritted her teeth, trying to push herself to her feet, but she could not.
The beautiful mare's ivory mane swirled around gracefully in the slowly rising water. It'll be all right, Maple... stay calm...
Her eyes fluttered open from a lengthy period of unconciousness, and she snorted water out of her nose. With the Waterhole filling, the trench was rising fast. She needed to get out. She curled her lip under and choked back a pained scream as she tried to stand once more. She wobbled clumsily like a newborn filly to the shore and wearily climbed the stones lining the low walls, using them like stairs. With a weak grasp on the slippery stones, she winced with every step and slowly made her way out, the stones threatening to jostle loose under her weight. The rain still powered down, her wet forelock dripping into her eyes.
Yang finally saw her. "Maple!" she shouted, rushing over.
