"But it's coming now." She went away a bit and moaned for a while as she struggled to push the foal out of her body.

"Let me help" She said, coming over

She gritted her teeth and shook her head. The foal slipped roughly out of her. It was long dead and stank of rot.

Bandit huffed as if Shadow should've known. He rose spryly from the puddle, shook off his coat, and promptly began to nurse. He nibbled Shadow's teats just to make her angry. After a few slurps he raised his head, licked his lips, and blubbered, "Bwhere's Mommy's bnew brend?" He poked her belly with his hoof meaningfully.

"Good boy." Shadow said gladly, ignoring the nips. "Do you want another friend?".

Eztli surveyed the room with the cages. Many dogs and cats howled, barked, mewed, yowled, and conversed quietly. The information conveyed in that room was almost mind-blinding and Eztli fought to concentrate.
He unlocked a cage with a large mastiff first and instructed him to get out. Then he swiftly broke open all the cages with dogs. They made a mad but quiet rush to the doors. Then the bloodhound stood in the center of the room and said in the general tongue of Pets, "Cats! Cats, would you like to get out?"
"Hmm... yes..." came the suspicious mew from many of them. "But you're a dog."
"Yes, but we won't hurt you. We need some help."
"Hmph. Dogs won't do us any favors."

"What is it you need taken care of?"
