Gemma followed Layla and Rufus, frantically keeping her ears focused on their voices to guide her. A few rocks came in her path, and she nearly tripped a few times, but she continued on. Something was wrong, she knew it, something was different about her mommy's voice.

Then the screaming started.

Head tilted back in horror, Gemma pricked her ears and listened, horrified. She whinnied questioningly, not daring to move.

With a relieved snort, Gemma lowered her head again and flicked her ears back. She still didn't move, but it was merely because Layla's voice was close, on the ground, and she didn't dare take a step for fear of stepping on her.
