I put my pellets in a roughneck snap lid storage container and keep it in my garage. Today I went to get some and found some white spidery mold. I was able to pick out most of it. Is it safe to feed the rest? How did this happen, how can I prevent it in the future? Wondering if there is anything I can put in the bin to absorb moisture?

no, feeding chickens or any animal for that matter mould is a bad idea. its not good for them and can make them very sick. in some animals like sheep and cattle it can make them abort their babies, so I would assume it would affect the eggs, which would not be good for hatching /eating. they will have sweated and then gone mouldy from this ( its a catch 22, you have to keep them dry but let them breathe) since they are going to be in the garage I would suggest an air tight container with a few air holes drilled in them, if the holes are big enough for mice etc to get in then put some hard wire mesh on them. a wheelie bin is a great way to keep feed, I keep all my adult chook food in one here, it has holes drilled in the lid ( it came like that) and its been great because nothing can get in and the food can breathe.

Yes, moldy feed will kill your flock. Keep the food out of direct sunlight. Also, keep it dry and make sure no moisture can get in. Don't buy more feed than you can store properly either.

You can use a vacuum storage device/bags to vacuum pack your feed for storage if needed. You can also ziplock and freeze feed if you must store it.

If you have any chicken buddies then maybe splitting the 50 lb bags would be better.

Moldy feed is a big NO NO! You can compost it however but keep your birds out of the compost heap.
