Hi,I'm new here and have not raised chickens since I was a boy.I now have a flock of 12 and am starting to get mold on the ground in the pen because of spilt feed and a lot of rain in my area lately.I was hoping someone knew some way of getting rid of it without digging it up or useing harsh chemicals.I was thinking of adding a thin layer of sand or gravel so it will drain better however It is mostly clay here and this approch could easely cost a lot of money . any suggestions would be helpful.

yes add the sand especially gravel and then
add a inch or tow of agricultural limestone
usually sold at lumber yards
it is not harmful if the eat it as it is just a calcium

also if any questions email me

yes..lime raked in well..trying to get rid of the lumps.
make sure you get the right kind..

sand works well..even tho it could be costly..do sections at a time.

make sure you keep wet feed cleaned up...can make them really sick.

Thanks to everyone who helped with this I have some lime for garden veggies and such I hope thats good. Will definatly put lime sand and gravel in.guess thats what I get for not putting gravel in first.thanks again for the input sure the chickens will be much happier now.
