Moldy feed from tractor supply

Heat and humidity won't be good!
Do you check the mill date on each bag before purchase, and only get feed that's within four weeks of milling? Older feed won't be better! I use mine up within six to eight weeks of milling, store it in metal garbage cans in the original bags, and never buy Dumor anyway.
This is not a good situation for you, and I hope you can find something better/ fresher, somewhere.
Here the local TSCs have been good, except they do keep feed around for months sometimes, 'because it's good for at least six months'. I don't believe it, or buy that stuff!

Figures. I have a 10% off total purchase coupon for TSC. I need feed and want to buy several bags as I also go away for 3 weeks in a month and figured this was a good opportunity to stock up for that trip as well. My chicken sitters have even less of a clue than I do so there’s little chance they’d recognize moldy feed. Argh. Why does this stuff always happen at the worst time possible?!

Sorry to revive a long dead thread.
Just picked up a bag of Dumor chick feed, and yup.
Moldy and smells musty and damp.

Super annoying because now I have to drive an hour into town for a replacement. After reading this thread I will avoid dumor products in the future.

Poor hens are gonna have to settle with crumbled up chips and crackers and table scrap stuff for the night, I guess

The current moldy bag I just bought today has a date of 5/10/23 on it. So over 6 months old.
Will definitely be checking the dates from now on

Mold/bugs could have happened at any point along the supply chain. Reporting the issue (with mill date/lot/info from bag) to the website/phone number on the bag is the best course of action.

To protect oneself before purchasing is to check the mill date (ideally only buy feed that will be used within 3 months of mill) and to look for signs of water damage and bug infestation. No guarantees that there will be signs but more often than not there will be.

Be sure and check the manufacture date in the feed before you buy. I purchased a bag of Layne’s at TSC and it was moldy. Bag date was about 8 months old. TSC manager told me the feed made sit in their warehouse several months before the stores get it. It gets hot and absorbs moisture sitting in the warehouses and begins to mold.
