Mollys and Glo Tetras?

Does anyone raise or breed these? My husband wants to do purple Glo tetras and I want to do mollies. I'm not very knowledgeable on fish, but you know know the basics. Any information would be great! Will mollies only breed with certain mollies or will they breed with any molly? (Dumb question I know, bear with me).

Hi, as a kid we used to have tropical fish, including black mollies, platties and guppies. I don't recall them inter-breeding but what i do seem to recall is that they are live-bearers.

Better then no info, Thank you! We as well used to have guppies. Also neon tetras, the guppies were mad breeders.

Mollies are a whole group of related species. The fish for sale in the pet shops are hybrid varieties, so you can't be sure they will breed true, but they will probably interbreed freely. Like most livebearers, you almost can't keep them from breeding.

You open a very different can of worms with the Glo tetras, though. They are genetically engineered fish, and as such, they are sold under a patent. It is rumored that something is done to make them sterile, but whether that is successful or not, it is illegal for a hobbyist to breed and sell them.

It says it's prohibited to breed and sell, but what about for food? I.e my ducks. Is it still prohibited?

As much monkey business as it usually takes to raise tropical fish, I can't help but think that there are bound to be cheaper sources of duck food.

Well we have food, they are just for looks and for treats . But I think we will just get all of 1 gender with Glo fish . Then breed the mollies..
