molting and egg production

How long after molting, does egg production improve? Will they need vitamens or food supplements?? Over 50 years ago I remember,our caged layers would molt and the floor of the houses would be covered inches deep in feathers. but that was long ago, and my wife thinks I should know, help!!

Depending on the time of year, summer my girls get back into production after they finish thier molt. Winter they sometimes wait awhile due to daylight I'm guessing. Welcome again......

So, since they started the molt last week in December, Jan. brought the coldest weather these chickens have seen in their lives, all combined I get no eggs till the days are longer and weather warms.

I have 5 that started molting: 1 in Nov., 2 in Dec, 1 late Dec. I did not get an egg from Dec 19th until a week ago. Every year my egg production really drops between Dec and February.....joe
