We have a hen going into her first adult molten and was wondering, is sunburn an issue during this period? The weather is pretty decent at the moment and as they range around the garden, was just a bit worried, as to whether they'd have the sense to seek shade to give bald patches a break from the sun?
Thanks

You can make some easy no-sew hen saddles out of polar fleece, but if they have plenty of shade they will usually seek shade under bushes or trees to get under.
Ok cheers. Only on the underside at the moment, so was just thinking ahead.

Here in Northern California we are experiencing temperatures between 80 & 90 degrees everyday. Chickens will go where they are comfortable. I notice mine, when free ranging, tend to stay in the shade of the oak and pine trees in the afternoon when it's the hottest. I tend to think yours will too!
