I have 5 hens and one is currently molting (in December in WI...). I have had to separate her (she's still w the flock but separated in the pen) because we have some feather pluckers and she was bleeding from her little new butt quills. My main question is, about how long does it take for the blood supply to go away once the "quills" have little feathers growing out? Its already been a few weeks and I think I'm more impatient than she is. Some are still just all white with no feather started and some have "sprouted". Thank you!

The feathers will retain blood vessels until they fully grow out, about six weeks.

I've had reasonable success with painting Blu-kote on the bare skin around the pin feathers. A blue butt can be a stunning accessory.
