molting hen watery poop (not emergency)

She is not caged but she is not free-range. They have a very large run with plenty of room to walk around and roost and run.

I have been massaging her crop after giving her a bit of coconut oil or olive oil, but I'll look into stool softeners
Massage the crop gently, especially an over stuffed crop, they can become stretched or even rupture if there is too much in them.

I think its sour crop, i hear bubbles and a bit of gurgling. her crop remains very full and through the skin of her crop it looks darker and tighter.

I gave her olive oil and ACV-infused water. Vet in 2 days.

May I ask how things went with your hen? Was it sour crop and did it resolve? I sure hope so

The fishy/sour smell went away but her crop is still quite slow! No sour crop for now.

I keep giving her small amounts of yogurt, probiotics in the water, and I have copper sulfate just in case. Her crop is very full of food all the time but shes acting fine.

Hi, my hen today is very lethargic. I’ve been massaging gently, giving probiotc foods and gentle, nutritious foods. I gave her extremely diluted acidified copper sulfate for a day but now she is acting very slow and tired. Her crop is full of feed and she has not drank or eaten today. I gave her water droplets with a syringe. She had not pooped for the 3 hours i’ve watched her but she doesn’t seem to be egg bound.

I can either:
- Start antibiotics from the vet that i haven’t given her (in fear of it piling up in her big crop)
- Start Safeguard dewormer although i’m not certain if it’s worms
- Start copper sulfate again but in higher concentration

I really don’t know what to do, i’m at a loss. She won’t eat or drink water unless i make her. I’m scared to give her something and make the wrong move. I’m sorry if im being annoying but Im just really scared im killing her and I have to go back to school tomorrow and I can’t monitor her.

Thank you to anyone who helps.

Is this the same hen previously mentioned? Has she ever been wormed or have you ever used Corid for Coccidiosis?

You might take a poop sample in to the vet to rule out worms or Coccidiosis as both of these will cause slow and sour crop.

One day of Acidified Copper Sulfate is not enough, she needs to drink it full time fir 7-10 days.

Did the vet do a swab and determine this is bacterial and thats why you have antibiotics? If so, I would start with those. You might even take her back to the vet for more tests.

Yes. She’s been battling crop stasis for a month since she ended her molt. She’s been wormed in the past with safeguard. I’ve never used corid before.

Unfortunately it’s quite difficult for me to send samples to the vet. I can try to ask my parents but they might say no. Her poops, in the past, have never had blood in them or anything but water and dark greenish poop matter.

For copper sulfate, I stopped because of her sudden behavior change. I don’t know if it’s because of stress of being in a cage yesterday or something else. But now she’s back in a warm room inside a large cage. I didn’t want to risk anything. Do you think i should start again on the copper sulfate? Today she’s been drinking water with probiotic/vitamins/electrolytes in it.

The vet said she didn’t know the exact cause, and gave me antibiotics. She did not do any swabs. This was a month ago. She said to give it to her just in CASE there was a bacterial infection. But i didn’t because i was scared of an adverse reaction.
