Hi all!

I have a 1.5 year old jersey giant who is going through a rough molt. She lost all her feathers and was growing in new ones except now they’re gone.

I honestly don’t know what happened there (the other chickens picking on her?), but I’m really concerned. The good news is that she isn’t bloody, but it’s very cold out, and the poor girl is basically bald.

I’m going to separate her and bring her inside for a bit, but is there any hope of her regrowing her pin feathers?

This was her a few days ago, and now all the new growth she had is gone.

I feel them all flock (20% protein), and supplemented them with some fish during their molt.

Could we see a pic of her now?
Do u have cockerels?
Bringing her inside is definitely a good idea.

Much much space do your birds have?
As far as will they regrow? Yes. Will it be soon? It depends on if the feathers shafts were actually removed. If so they should grow in again soon.
If the shafts are still there, I'm not sure if she will need to wait a year or if in this state partial feathers left behind would still develop.

They have a 250 sq ft run (there are 23 of them in there).

I’ll bring her inside in the meantime because we’re currently seeing temps in the 20’s and 30’s. I have four chicks inside (plus my Serama flock) so she wouldn’t be alone.

I’ve got two others molting right now that are not being picked on, so it looks like poor Judy just lucked out :(

Yup, this is today. She still has the pin feathers on her chest and belly, but her back is bare.

And yes, as you can see I do have roosters 😂

Hmmm
I'm kinda stumped, but its is only on her back, perhaps the roosters were mating with her and that caused an issue(?). Again, i'm just theorising, as i've never seen anything like this before!
I think they'll grow back, probably by the end of her moult (which may last longer). Its good shes having enough protein.
