The molting has started and I've noticed that myfavorite hen who is usually friendly and comfortable has become a bit skittish and flighty. I am assuming it is because she has dropped her feathers and feels vulnerable? Anyone else notice this kind of change?
Yes, my hens get "touchy" when they are moulting. I read, probably on this forum, that their skin is sensitive as the feathers grow in. Mine don't like me to pick them up or pet them during this time, so I always look forward to the time that they are beautiful and fluffy again. Be patient and they will be back to their old selves soon.
Yep, 'molting mood swings' are real. You should have known me when I first started losing my hair.
Yes, molting can be a very stressful situation and temperments can change during the process. As your hens feathers fill in, her temperment will return.
