Molting or mating damage or mites?

These are pictures from a family friends chickens who have lost some feathers. What could it be?

I agree with @sourland . The locations are too... isolated. You'd see more patches with molting and more widespread feather damage if it were mites. And overmating usually occurs differently - not right there. It's usually the back of the neck (where he grabs hold) or along the hen's backs (from his spurs).

Hen aprons are O.K in some instances, but it's always best to address the underlying cause which would likely be the rooster in this case. When pinfeathers start to sprout underneath the apron, that can oftentimes cause pain, and discomfort to the bird.
