Can anyone tell me if it is normal for my two young Silkie roosters to be shedding so many feathers. Everyday I go out to the chook pen and there are loads of feathers on the ground, and I am wondering if this is ok, or are they not getting enough of the correct food. I am thinking they are molting but not sure.

My Silike (the one I thought was a girl) crowed yesterday. So all the people who said it was a roo were correct, just waiting for the other to do the same.

pics? sounds like they are molting some baby feathers. are there new feathers growing in were the old ones were if not then i would look into them having lice

Queensland Australia, and it has been really hot, no rain for ages.

yeah, I'd say molting some baby feathers. You cant never really say what a bird will end up exactly as an adult from chick cause they molt a few times before the adult feathers come in. Which is why lakenvelders can be all messed up in colors as teens but end up perfect by adult hood
