Can I expect my hens to all molt at the same time? I heard egg production stops during the molt- but I'd like at least a few of them to still be laying while the others are molting.

I am by no means an expert, but when my hens went through their molt, they all went together. I had no eggs for 2 months. I had stockpiled some but did eventually have to go to the store and buy a couple dozen

Now that being said, I have 1 hen who is molting right now. She is the only one and I have no idea why she is molting now.

This is interesting! My six hens are a year old. Two have moulted, the EE at 8 months. At that time, I did some research. Evidently, it depends on the breed. It said the better layers usually moult later and for a shorter period of time. Are all your hens the same breed? Mine are all different breeds so I'm expecting them to moult at different times.

We have 3 breads- Aruacana, Australorp, and RIR. Hopefully they'll all molt at different times!

I have 6 hens - all different breeds, the four that have molted did so at different times - onee took just a few weeks, others took almost 2 months! I have two that have not molted yet - are just turning a year old. So, I think it depends on the breed. Mine stopped producing eggs during their molt, so I was grateful they did not all go at once!
