Is it molting season? My 2 Toulouse geese (female born this may) seem to be loosing so many of their feathers they’re starting to look a little rough. They are the first time I’ve ever owned geese so was just wondering if it’s normal. I tried to check them over for mites and bug but didn’t find anything, although they weren’t very cooperative. We live in northwest Missouri if that helps.

It is normal, generally they will begin to molt right around the summer solstice, they are very sensitive to photoperiod changes and will begin to drop large numbers of feathers quickly in preparation for fall.

Blessings,

Bo

Yup it’s normal! My goslings both have their feathers spread everywhere across my yard. It’s like it’s snowing in summer! So don’t worry, totally normal. 👍

Just checking on when molting season is this year? Norbert managed to singe his tail feathers on the gas fire last year and his butt has looked a mess for ages; I was hoping they'd grow back properly this year and I thought it might be about time for that to happen?
