MOLTING - - - Why aren't my birds molting? ? ?

My neighbor down the street has a flock of birds that is molting. Some are the exact age and breed as mine.

I heard from another BYC member not too far away whose flock is molting.

My birds are showing NO SIGNS of molting.

Do all birds molt EVERY YEAR ? ?

The majority of my flock was born in December 2009. They are 10 months old. Will they molt this year? ?

I molting was weather related - - as the days got shorter the birds molt to get ready for winter. Is this correct ? ?

Why aren't my birds molting ? ?

I am also feeding the older birds the non medicated chick starter when I noticed a lot of new feathers? (And with all the growing biddies in the run with them) Feather production needs more protein so maybe that is helping?

Many times birds do not moult the first year as the feathers are new adult feathers. Other scenarios, some moult so slowly that you can hardly see it. Evidence is only a few of the larger feathers on the ground, or maybe a ragged tail on a rooster. Then of course you have the ones that get naked. Moulting is generally a seasonal thing. For some reason, my flock in South FL always moulted in late summer. Other parts of the country varies greatly, even with snow belt birds moulting in dead winter. Not easy to figure out, but sufice to say, don`t worry about it........Pop

Some of my older girls were lightly molting this year, they're about done now. My younger ones 15 mos. so far have not really done much. I will see a feather or two now and then but so far that's been it. A good thing because it is only 29 degrees this morning.
