I thought my girls had finished their molt, but I had several tail feathers from one of my GLW (Amelia) today. Amelia's tail is looking a bit scraggly, and when I picked her up, about 3-4 additional feathers came out (not sure if tail or wing - they were long ones).

Is this normal? Or can something else be going on?

Sounds like a molt to me! Each individual molts differently, all of my girls have finished their molt expect one, she just started.

They're especially vunerable to illness and parasitic infection right now so it wouldn't be a bad idea to check her out. Look at the skin around her backside to check for lice/mites and eggs. And pick her up to see how she's doing weight wise. They can loose weight quickly during molting time. She may need a little TLC for a while. [IMG]
